What Is The Storyteller Program?

The Storyteller Program is our answer to an organized play program. If you aren’t familiar with what an organized play program is, it’s a way for players, old and new, to find each other, plan events, and share in the excitement of playing Coyote & Crow. This program is going to be a little different than what other publishers may have done in the past. The Coyote & Crow RPG faces some unique challenges. First, many non-Native players have been intimidated or scared to run games of Coyote & Crow because they fear being offensive or misrepresenting Native peoples. Second, many Native players lack easy access to some of the materials or platforms for a variety of reasons.

Important Things To Know About Becoming A Coyote & Crow Storyteller:

  • You do not have to be Native
  • You do not have to know how to play Coyote & Crow
  • You do not have to own the rules or accessories for Coyote & Crow
  • You are not required to play or run any games of Coyote & Crow
  • In short, you can sign up, reap the benefits, and never do anything with it ever again (although we hope otherwise)

So, what do you get when you become a Coyote & Crow Storyteller? Below, we’ll list all of the benefits and rewards.

Rewards

These are things that we will send physically or digitally to each member in the program.

  • An official and exclusive Coyote & Crow Storyteller T-shirt ($30 value)
  • An official and exclusive Coyote & Crow Storyteller Pin($10 value)
  • A PDF copy of the rules for Coyote & Crow ($25 value)
  • 9 one-shot PDF adventures ($90 value)
  • 1 set of access codes to all Coyote & Crow materials on either Foundry VTT or Roll20 (see more about these platforms below) ($25 value)

**If you already have some of these items, you’re welcome to gift them to someone else.

Access

Below is a list of things Storytellers will have exclusive access to. See the bottom of this page for more details.

  • Storyteller specific Discord channel
  • Special YouTube videos
  • Optional: Your name mentioned on our website as an official Storyteller
  • Access to an events list that will include a list of C&C players around the world
  • Opportunity to run online games through Arcane Circle, getting paid a higher percentage and gaining a special badge and icon
  • Opportunities to run paid events at conventions, events, and authorized hobby game stores.

Arcane Circle is an official partner of Coyote & Crow Games. They are an incredible service that helps Players and Story Guides find each other (and not just for Coyote & Crow!). This service also allows Story Guides to charge players for their games, earning you money! When you’re part of the Storyteller Program and are an active Storyteller (see Important Things below), you’ll get a special badge there, showing you are an official Storyteller and an improved percentage of pay!

Other Rewards

There may be other reward opportunities that will present themselves in the future. Members will either get exclusive access to these benefits or will have priority access to them.

How Much Does All Of This Cost?

There are currently two ways to get on board with our Storyteller Program.

Commit to a late pledge through our upcoming expansion book, Legends and Icon, on Kickstarter, and choose a pledge level that includes the Storyteller Program.

Pledge at least $160 to our Storyteller Program through our GoFundMe.

Please note that the amount raised on GoFundMe does not indicate whether the program is active. Due to the success of the Kickstarter, the program is active.

Those options might seem like a fair chunk of change, but just the Rewards alone are valued at $170. Which means all of the Access benefits are essentially free! What’s more, the goal of this program is not for Coyote & Crow Games to make a quick buck. It’s to help grow and foster a vibrant community of players and Story Guides that will help Coyote & Crow Games keep producing content for the RPG. It is an investment in the future of Coyote & Crow.

Shipping

If you’re in the US, shipping is included. We’ll be shipping the Reward items from our home office in WA. If you are outside the US, you’ll have to pay shipping for the items at whatever the current US postal rate is, and we’ll invoice you before we ship.

Important Things To Note

Anyone who accepts membership will receive their Rewards once the program is active. You never have to return those items for any reason. They are yours to keep. However, the benefits listed under Access are conditional upon being a member of the program in good standing. Coyote & Crow Games will require members to sign a letter of understanding before granting them access to the benefits listed under Access. This letter outlines the behaviors and attitudes that we expect Storytellers to exhibit when running games of Coyote & Crow or interacting with players, as we consider them ambassadors to the Coyote & Crow community. If you do not wish to sign the agreement, you can still get everything listed under Rewards. But if you do sign the letter, then you are subject to having your membership revoked for violating it. If you have your membership revoked, you will lose all benefits listed under Access.

Retailers

If you run a Friendly Local Game Store in the US or Canada, and you would like to purchase one or more Storyteller memberships for either store employees or event runners at your store, please email us through our Contact Page and we can discuss crafting a custom version of this program for your store. Please do not send any money through GoFundMe until we’ve agreed on your custom plan.

Details on Rewards and Access

T-shirts

The t-shirts will come in a wide range of unisex sizes and we’re hoping to work with a Native-owned print shop for them. The images below are mock ups and the design is not final.

Pins

The Storyteller pins will be enamel and will identify you as an official Storyteller for Coyote & Crow. This is not the final version and is only a mock up.

VTT Codes

Each person will receive 1 set of codes for either Foundry VTT or Roll20, their choice. The set will include the full Coyote & Crow package for that platform, plus our new Ahu Tiiko content. If you already have that content, you are welcome to gift it to someone else. Only the Story Guide needs codes to use the materials, while players simply have to have an account.

Discord Channel

In this exclusive channel will be Kenna Alexander, a few other developers from Coyote & Crow, our Discord mods, and other fellow Storytellers. There we can have more involved conversations around the game, events, and really any issues you all want to discuss.

YouTube Videos

We’ll be creating content for the channel that will specifically address issues pertinent to running games of Coyote & Crow. While some of this may be presented by Kenna or other C&C developers or writers, we’ll be offering you all opportunities to create video content as well. These videos will only be available to Storytellers.

Storyteller List

We’ll have a list of official Storytellers here on this website. This is opt-in. You’ll also have the opportunity to leave your email or socials if you like so that players can find you.

Events List

We’ll collectively create an Events List that players can opt into and will include their contact information. Hopefully, this builds up a player database that you all can pull from, either to play online with or to reach out for in-person events.

Paid Opportunities

Storytellers in good standing can register an event through us and be paid for the opportunity. You’ll be required to send us a link to the event before the date and send photos after. You’ll be provided with some materials so that players know this is an official event. Events must be public – at a game store, community center, convention, or other similar venue. We may discuss opportunities for paid streaming events as well. Rate of pay is still to be determined, but will likely be a flat rate for a four-hour event, unless other arrangements have been made. You will need to be able to be paid via Direct Deposit or through Wise.
