Acknowledging the land you play on

What a coincidence, I am also located in Mohkinstsis! Not sure I'll be able to make the RPG alliance event, but nice to know there'll be folks playing locally <3

I love this idea! How could we adapt it for online play? I live in a tiny village in the Pacific Northwest (Yakama and Wenatchee land) but I'm planning to play on Roll20 and invite people from all over, including a fellow who lives in (I think) London.

I guess I (as in, just me) could mention the land that I'm currently on, but what if my players want to join in? What if they don't know whose land they're on? (I love the idea that I'd inspire them to find out- does anyone have any good resources?) What if they're European? Does anyone have any ideas?

For players in the Americas, your approach makes complete sense, making your own acknowledgement and inviting (not requiring) the players to share themselves. For folks not in the Americas, well, it seems to me that there are very few places where colonization hasn't had its impacts in similar ways, and that inviting those players to share their own acknowledgements in "solidarity" doesn't seem - to this non-indigenous contributor to the conversation - particularly out of line.

There is a free app (think you can find it in App Store) called Whose Land. It is a map-based tool for providing information about treaties and Indigenous organizations primarily in Canada (and a very few areas of USA). It also has ideas and examples of land acknowledgments. I think it is a living document. It might be useful for some.

This feeds into the question another member had about livestreaming their C&C game (all non-Native participants) in a respectful way. I was thinking that an acknowledgement at the beginning that players will attempt to be respectful while also being ignorant of some aspects of the culture; an acknowledgement of the land you are playing on at the opening of the game would also fit.
